  7. FAMILY SEARCH BY CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTERDAY SAINTS

  9.   This program is written to use expanded memory and is compatible with
  10.   Above  Boards and Matched Memory Classic.  The Toshiba CD ROM is used with
  11.   the systems generally supplied with this software.
  12.  
  13.   Field reports indicate the /E parameter must be removed from the
  14.   AUTOEXEC.BAT  command line for the Toshiba CD ROM.  The error seen with
  15.   this parameter on the line is "1189", indicating the CD ROM cannot be
  16.   accessed while trying to  use the expanded memory.
  17.  
  18.   This program requires at least 547Kb of CONVENTIONAL memory to be
  19.   available before it will run and use expanded memory.

  21.   Fastback Plus
  22.   Fastback Plus overwrites the CONFIG.SYS file.  If you have any devices
  23.   drivers, such as EMM, loading in the CONFIG.SYS file, they will be removed
  24.   when you install Fastback Plus.

  26. FASTBREAK & 8087

  28.   This utility by MicroWay is reported to allow Lotus 1-2-3 Release 1A to
  29.   use the 8087 (1-2-3 Rel 2 doesn't need Fastbreak).  Fastbreak is
  30.   incompatible with EMM.

  32. FINAL WORD & QUIKBUF
  33.  
  34.   By default this software doesn't use the BIOS for input/output, so it's
  35.   incompatible with the Above Board QUIKBUF print buffer.  To use it with
  36.   QUIKBUF, run the FINAL WORD configuration program and select the "use
  37.   Operating System for all Input/output" option.

  39. FRAMEWORK

  41.   The Framework installation program refers to "extended memory" as memory
  42.   above 640K bytes (such as memory on an Above Board) or memory on a hard
  43.   disk.  Framework swaps information from conventional memory to its
  44.   "extended memory."  This may be the Above Board or a hard disk, depending
  45.   what you specified in the installation program.

  47.   (Field report)  One user reports that after Framework loads, it requires
  48.   200K bytes of free conventional memory to use expanded memory.  Ashton-
  49.   Tate technical support told the user this.

  62.   Hal will use approx 200K of expanded memory when loaded.

  64.   HAL is a 1-2-3 front-end program that provides a 'plain english' command
  65.   line for 1-2-3.  It features an 'undo' command that allows you to recover
  66.   deleted or changed spreadsheets.  The Undo command takes advantage of
  67.   expanded memory.

  69.   HAL is a terminate and stay resident program that uses around 100K of
  70.   conventional memory, as well as the 200k of expanded memory.

  72. HERCULES HPRINT UTILITY & QUIKBUF
  73.  
  74.   The Hercules HPRINT utility uses Shift-PrtSc key combination, which
  75.   interferes directly with the QUIKBUF pop-up menu (QUIKBUF also uses Shift-
  76.   PrtSc).  If you want to use the QUIKBUF pop-up menu, put the QUIKBUF
  77.   command (with the Hercules option) before HGC PRINT command in the
  78.   AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  Then use the HPRINT sequence of Shift-PrtSc-Spacebar
  79.   to pop-up the QUIKBUF menu.

  81.   NOTE:  HPRINT uses Shift-PrtSc-0 or Shift-PrtSc-1 to print graphics
  82.          screens. Using one of these on a text screen will lock up the
  83.          computer.

  85.   HPRINT only works with Epson RX, MX, or IBMGraph printers.  Using another
  86.   printer may also lock up the computer.

  88. HIMEM (XMS MEMORY)
  89.  
  90.   HIMEM is a program that converts 64K bytes of extended memory into
  91.   conventional memory.  This means you can have 704K bytes of conventional
  92.   memory instead of 640K.  This extra conventional memory is called XMS
  93.   memory.   Only programs specifically written to work with HIMEM can use
  94.   XMS memory.  For example, Windows 2.1 can use it, but Windows 2.03, Lotus
  95.   1-2-3, and most other DOS applications can't use it.

  97.   USING HIMEM WITH EMM:
  98.   You must load EMM.SYS before HIMEM.SYS in the CONFIG.SYS file.  If you
  99.   load HIMEM first, all extended memory will be disabled when an application
  100.   uses XMS memory.  This happens because HIMEM uses interrupt 15 (INT 15).
  101.   If you load EMM first, everything works fine.

  103.   CHKMEM AND XMS MEMORY:
  104.   Because the CHKMEM program isn't written to work with XMS memory, it won't
  105.   report the extra 64K bytes of XMS  memory.  This also applies to the
  106.   CHKDSK program.

  108. HP NEW WAVE
  109.  
  110.   This is a Windows-like piece of software.  Requires AB Plus or Plus 8 and
  111.   mappable conventional memory.
  112.  
  113.   The software directs the user to disable conventional memory down to 256K
  114.   and to "follow the manufacturer's instructions for backfilling
  115.   conventional memory".  Since this must be mappable conventional memory,
  116.   the user must have an AB Plus or Plus 8 and have MC on the EMM.sys device
  117.   driver line.
  118.  
  119.   NEWWAVE will continue to report "not enough conventional memory" until the
  120.   MC parameter is added to the EMM command line.

  122.   A side note: Only 636k of conventional memory is found by CHKMEM (or only
  123.   252K if the computer's setup program has not been set for 640 conv).  This
  124.   is normal on an HP vectra.  It eats 4k in ROM's.

  126. HOME BASE

  128.   Home Base from Brown Bag Software is compatible with the  Above Board, but
  129.   it doesn't use expanded memory.  You can load Home Base from the
  130.   CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  If you load it in the CONFIG.SYS file,
  131.   load it before the  Intel device drivers:

  140. IBM 3101 EMULATION PROGRAM
  141.  
  142.   A field report of a user who got her AB PS 286 to work with an IBM 3101
  143.   Emulation Program. System was an IBM AT. The Emulation Program uses a
  144.   serial port to communicate. It must use COM1 and "does not like non-IBM
  145.   serial ports".  She did say she got it to work with our ports in the
  146.   system (she also had a second serial port), but she could not remember
  147.   specifically what she had to do. We've had no other reports of
  148.   incompatibilities with this software.

  150. IBM 3270 CONTROL PROGRAM & SIDEKICK
  151.  
  152.   In July of 1986 Borland reported known problems with Sidekick and Ver 2.1
  153.   of the 3270 control program.  They were working on a fix.  Since this time
  154.   we have had no further reported complaints, and it would seem the solution
  155.   was quickly implemented. The problem was not related to the Above Board.

  157. IMAGE STATION

  159.   This is a Lotus 1-2-3 template graphics processor that requires expanded
  160.   memory and an AT&T Targa card.  AT&T Graphics Software Labs makes Image
  161.   Station.

  163. INTEL ICE 386

  165.   The ICE 386 software requires expanded memory.  It won't load unless at
  166.   least 768K bytes of expanded memory are available.  For more information

  182.   Intel tested this program and it is compatible with Above Boards.
  183.   Microsoft Excel uses expanded memory for data storage/code swap/buffer
  184.   area/RAM. It requires EMM 4.0.  Excel runs faster with Intel Math
  185.   CoProcessors.
